Prometheus Install on CENTOS 8

sudo mkdir /var/lib/prometheus

wget https://github.com/prometheus/prometheus/releases/download/v${RELEASE}/prometheus-${RELEASE}.linux-amd64.tar.gz
tar xvf prometheus-${RELEASE}.linux-amd64.tar.gz
cd prometheus-${RELEASE}.linux-amd64/
sudo cp prometheus promtool /usr/local/bin/
sudo cp -r consoles/ console_libraries/ /etc/prometheus/

Edit sudo emacs /etc/prometheus/prometheus.yml

# Global config

  scrape_interval:     15s # Default is every 1 minute.
  evaluation_interval: 15s # The default is every 1 minute.

Set directory permissions:

for i in rules rules.d files_sd; do
  sudo chown -R prometheus:prometheus /etc/prometheus/${i};
done
for i in rules rules.d files_sd; do
  sudo chmod -R 775 /etc/prometheus/${i};
done
sudo chown -R prometheus:prometheus /var/lib/prometheus/

Start Prometheus service:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl start prometheus
systemctl status prometheus.service

Configure firewalld:

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-rich-rule \
  'rule family="ipv4" source address="192.168.1.0/24" port protocol="tcp" port="9090" accept'
sudo firewall-cmd --reload

Verify the install by pointing the browser to http://localhost:9090/

To add targets: sudo emacs /etc/prometheus/prometheus.yml

  targets: ['localhost:9090', '192.168.1.1:9100']

Then restart prometheus:

sudo systemctl restart prometheus
